Delete your Yalla English account
You can delete your Yalla English account and the data held against it at any time. There are two ways: from inside the app, or by emailing us if you no longer have the app.
If you use Yalla English as a guest, you have no account to delete. Guest progress is only ever stored on your device and is never sent to us. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, removes it.
Option 1 — Delete it in the app
This is the fastest way, and it also clears your data from the device you are using.
- Open Yalla English and make sure you are signed in.
- Open Settings (the gear icon).
- Scroll to the Account section and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm it is you. If you signed in with an email and password, you will be asked for your current password. If you signed in with Google, Google will ask you to choose the same account.
- Type DELETE when asked, and confirm.
The Account section appears only when you are signed in, because a guest has no account to delete.
Option 2 — Ask us by email
If you have uninstalled the app, cannot sign in, or would simply rather we did it, email yallaenglish.app@gmail.com and ask us to delete your account.
So we can find the right account and be sure the request is really yours, please:
- Send the email from the address you use to sign in to Yalla English. This is how we confirm the account is yours.
- Use the subject line Delete my Yalla English account.
- Tell us how you sign in — with an email and password, or with Google.
Never send us your password. We will never ask for it, and we do not need it. We also do not need your date of birth, your address, a photograph, or any identity document.
If you cannot email us from your sign-in address, write from any address and tell us which sign-in address the account uses. We may need to ask you something further before deleting it, because we will not delete an account on a request we cannot connect to its owner.
We act on deletion requests as soon as we can, and we will email you to confirm once the account has been deleted.
What gets deleted
Held against your account, and always deleted
- your sign-in account;
- your lesson progress, listening minutes, streaks, and daily goal;
- your favourite lessons and saved words;
- your onboarding and first-run-tips record;
- your daily usage totals and feature activity counts;
- any feedback you submitted through the app’s rating prompt.
On your device, deleted when you use the in-app flow
- your account-linked preferences;
- your quiz, review, mistake and grammar practice history;
- the voice recordings you saved in Word Shadowing and Sentence Shadowing, including the audio files themselves;
- downloaded and cached lesson audio and text.
If you ask by email instead
An emailed request deletes your account and everything held against it, as listed above. It cannot reach data stored on your phone: we have no way to access your device remotely, and nothing in the app lets us do so.
To clear what is on the device as well, do one of these:
- use the in-app deletion flow instead, if you can still sign in; or
- uninstall Yalla English; or
- open Android Settings › Apps › Yalla English › Storage and clear the app’s storage.
What is kept
Settings that belong to the device rather than to any account — your theme, interface language, text size and playback preferences — are left alone, because deleting one account is not a reset of your phone. They go when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
Deleting your account is permanent. We cannot restore your progress afterwards, so if you sign up again you will start fresh.
